Doubling Down

Doubling down means doubling the size of your original bet. A player may usually double down on his original hand.

To double down place your cards face up in front of you and place a bet equal to your original bet, behind your original bet.

When you double down you are dealt only one more card for that hand. You cannot stand on your original hand or take more then 1 additional card.

Casino rules vary for doubling down. In Atlantic City the rules of Blackjack have been standardized and are the same in all casinos, however in other areas there are casinos that do not permit players to double-down after splitting a pair. Additionally, some casinos will not allow a player to double down after receiving an ace as a first or second card. Other casinos allow doubling on totals of 10 or 11 only.

This is why it is very important to establish the casino rules before playing.
